Introduction to Traditional Lead Roofing SMS02

Posted on behalf of Andie Harris

Working with Conservation Architect, David Beaumont (RIBA AABC) of Beaumont Brown Architects and contractor Lewis Turnbull of NCS, we are providing two 'Introduction to Traditional Leadwork' training sessions during the works to this iconic building.

During the session we will:

  • have a site introduction

  • history of the site

  • discuss the specification of the repair works

  • look at the existing roof works of the Minster

  • examine the current corrosion issues

  • recognise methods of decay

  • observe examples of underside corrosion

  • identify the risks of future corrosion

  • debate how to manage future corrosion risk

  • watch a demonstration of lead dressing

  • provide an opportunity for hands on lead dressing, under the supervision of the contractor

This training session is suitable for those working or interested in the historic environment and traditional skills, those interested in heritage and historic buildings and those with an interest in the history of Sunderland and the Minster. Over 18's only.
