Ryhope Scything Taskday

Ryhope Scything Taskday

Posted on behalf of Sustrans

Join us on National Cycle Network Route 1 in Ryhope to help us continue our efforts to establish a wildflower meadow. We’ll be scything and raking the grassland area to help reduce nutrients in the soil to allow a more diverse range of wildflowers to grow in place of the coarse grasses which currently dominate the area. We’ll also be revisiting the areas where we removed sections of bramble earlier in the year and sowing native wildflower seeds.

Meeting location: On the cycle track at under the red and white bridge (see link below for exact location)

What to bring/wear: Wear sturdy footwear with good grip as the ground may be muddy and uneven. Please wear longsleeves and trousers and be prepared for all weather conditions - bring warm, waterproof clothing/sun screen and hat. Please also bring with you a packed lunch and refreshments. Tools and protective equipment will be provided.

Other Information: Please note that there are no public toilets on the route. Under 18s must be accompanied by an adult. If you have any questions feel free to email me at danny.morris@sustrans.org.uk
