Noir at the Bar North East

Noir at the Bar started in the US, spread to Scotland and then Newcastle, and now Noir at the Bar comes to Sunderland: eight writers read from their work in the great surroundings of the Peacock’s first floor bar, and there will be chances to go home with a book from one of the writers featured. Hosted by Vic Watson and Jacky Collins who run Newcastle Noir, it’s a great night out and a must for fans of crime fiction.

The line-up to date includes the following – one more guest to be announced, and one spot to be open to a ballot on the night…so bring your story (eight mins max, can be complete story or excerpt from longer work)

Victoria Watson

Victoria Watson is a writer, copy editor and Creative Writing tutor. She runs weekly writing groups in Newcastle and has won awards for both fiction and non-fiction.


Victoria is responsible for the Newcastle and Harrogate incarnations of Noir at the Bar.

Dr Jacky Gramosi Collins

Dr Jacky Collins (Dr Noir) is Senior Lecturer in Film and TV at Northumbria University. She has a great passion for European Crime fiction, film & TV. In recent years, her keen interest in the genre has led to her setting up the Newcastle Noir Annual Crime Writing Festival & also the quarterly Noir@theBar gathering up in Edinburgh. She also takes much delight in supporting Vic Watson who leads Noir@theBar Newcastle. Together with author Shelley Day they for the Bloodys Marys creative writing group. There’s nothing that Jacky likes better than to be interviewing a crime fiction author or moderating a festival panel.
