Ryhope Great British Rake-Off

Ryhope Great British Rake-Off

Posted on behalf of Sustrans

Join Sustrans staff in a UK-wide competition to rake off as much grass as possible from a section grassland on NCN1 in Ryhope in the community greenspace. By scything the grass and removing cuttings we’ll be allowing more sunlight to reach the soil and preventing nutrients from leaching into it which will help promote the growth of wildflowers in place of coarse grasses - good news for pollinators!

Meeting location: NCN1 in Ryhope at the north end of the greenway (see link for exact location)

What to bring/wear: Wear sturdy footwear with good grip ground is uneven in places. Make sure to be prepared for all weather conditions - bring warm, waterproof clothing as well as sun protection. Please also bring with you a packed lunch and refreshments. A pair of gardening gloves would also come in handy if you have them.

Other Information: We encourage those wishing to attend to arrive on foot or by bike where possible, however parking is possible in the street by the entrance to the greenway

Please note that participants under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a responsible adult

This workday is a part of Sustrans' Greener Greenways project which looks to improve our traffic-free routes for people and wildlife
